Blu & Exile - Below The Heavens

Album by producer Exile and rapper Blu.
The beats are very proper on this one, original samples and a lot of emotion also because of the personal things Blu writes about.

Guilty Simpson - Ode To The Ghetto - Oh No Remixes

I already liked the Ode To The Ghetto album by Guilty Simpson, but was more blown away by these remixes by Oh No (little brother of madlib).
Very original beats, best beats i heard in a while and they go very well with the Guilty Simpson vocals.
This album is free to download at Stones Throw.

Blame One - Days Chasing Days

Sounds like a low budget album but with soul from Blame One.
I didn't know anything about this rapper, only that he collaborated with Exile on the boards.
It seems he's in the hiphop game for a long time though.
Nice beats and good original choice of samples makes it good to listen 2 while your days go by.

J Dilla - Donuts

J Dilla's last beattape. A beautiful instrumental journey through time.
Not much to say here, just that you have to take a listen if you haven't already...

RIP J Dilla

Rap Classical - Welcome To Reality vol.1

Free album by a crew called Rap Classical, there are mostly from USA except one dutch member. Album is produced by a dutch beatmaker (Oh Jay).

Some good raw & fresh hiphop with a grimy undertone.

MF Doom - Is Viktor Vaughn Vaudeville Villain

My favorite album of MF Doom, with some great productions by not very well known producers from Sound-Ink Records.
He steps in the shoes of antisocial Villain, Viktor Vaughn (Doctor Doom's real name in the dr doom comicbooks)

Exile - Radio

Instrumental album made by Exile.
I first heard music from this artist when he made beats for Fashawn, he produced his entire debut album 'Boy Meets World'.

This album is made with only samples found on the Radio, from kicks and snares to the bass lines and quotes.
Because its very clear to hear he uses the MPC, it sounds very fresh and original, and not like your everyday hiphop beats.
The album itself sounds like an experience, a radio play, with quotes that really mean something, and surprising turns and twists you don't expect.

Oh No - IBeats

Oh No (aka Michael Jackson) *yeah that IS his real name* is a beatmaker and family member of Madlib.
He shows what you can do with the new technology, which fell from the Apple-tree.

Guilty Simpson - OJ Simpson

Refreshing album from the one and only Madlib (aka (O)tis (J)ackson) and Guilty Simpson. The flow and delivery from Guilty Simpson sounds even better on Madlib beats.
Madlib takes the freedom to throw in a lot of weird interludes.
Surprising as always.

Mos Def in Japan: Embedded

I came accross this documentary about Mos Def in Japan.
Inspiring, and a look at the ecstatic of the Japanese.

Mos Def in Japan: Embedded

Mos Def - The Ecstatic

In my opinion the best hiphop-album released in 2009, Mos Def offcourse has paid his dues in hiphop history.
I think the greatness off this album is that it stands out from the rest.
The content of this album is not definable in an easy way like the album title: Ecstatic, trying to explain this word is hard enough so i'm not even gonna start :) (go and read wikipedia)

The beats on this album are also not your typical '4 bars chorus, 16 bars rhymes' patterns.
Also because some beats, like the ones Madlib en OhNo did, are picked from beattapes.
It looks like Mos Def choose beats that really fit the ideas he had in mind.
